Overview
When you go to
a website you are able to view the contents of the files hosted on
that "domain" or web address. If you go to www.yvod.com
you have to potential to see files we are serving from that domain.
Most businesses have their own domain and can then serve any information
they desire from it.
In order to own
your own domain you must "register" it with a domain authority.
These authorities control a database of all registered domains around
the world. Once you are in that database, any browser can find your
domain by checking these domain databases. The actual service is called
a Domain Name Server (DNS) and every website that can be viewed on
the web must be registered with the main DNS databases.
If you already
OWN a domain and wish to transfer the HOSTING responisbilites to YVOD
you need to MODIFY the ownership information. The rest of this document
will take you through all the steps you need to complete.
Step 1)
http://www.networksolutions.com/en_US/makechanges/
Go here and enter in your domain name (we will use the example: colorcorner.com).
(You may use any
domain registration authority. Many of our clients have been happy
using http://www.registrars.com/static/regtransfer/.
Please click here
for more instructions)
Step 2)
Select "transfer my Domain Name to another ISP".
Step 3)
Select "Get Information." This will go out to the
main DNS database and grab information about the owner of the domain
and pop-up a new display window. Please verify that the information
is currently correct. The only bit of information that is of importance
is your "NIC Handle". This will appear as a hyper-link right
next to the name of the "Billing Contact". (e.g. UM469).
Step 4)
Type in the email address associated with this account and select
"Go".
Step 5)
Fill in the form. This is VERY important and must be done correctly.
Please take your time as any mistakes may lead to problems.
Organization,
Address, City, Sate, Zip, Country should all be corrected if there
are any errors.
Step 6)
This next section is very important so please follow exactly. For
all three responses, select "Use assigned NIC handle:"

Step 9)

is reply (ie: send it back) and you will be finished. This is a VERY
IMPORTANT STEP!! If you do not send the email back to NetworkSolutions
you will not switch your hosting to YVOD!
Step 10)
There is no step 10!!!! =)
Within a few days
